Whether it’s a news story, an event, an offer or just keeping your presence in the media a well-written press release can have a positive impact on your business. The key is to get it in front of the right people and published or shared on social media.
A press release is one of the most important tools in your marketing toolkit. It can be used for both traditional press and digital media as well as broadcast media.
When starting your own business, there is a need to do as much of "the stuff" ourselves to keep costs down. One big way you can help to achieve this is by creating, writing and pushing your own press releases without having to engage an expensive PR company in the early stages of your business. Once your business becomes huge, and you have more important things to worry about, like where you're going to make your next million, then you can hire a PR company! But fresh out of the blocks, you're going to have to admit that this work will have to be done by you so you can invest whatever spare cash you have into other needs and demands of your business.
In this informative training workshop, I will run through:
- What is a Press Release and What is its Function?
- The Ingredients in a Successful Press Release
- How Should it be Structured?
- Getting it Published?
- Editorial vs Advertorial.
Along the way, we will work through practical examples, and by the end of it you will be well on your way to writing your first press release!
The other key element of this training is helpful and practical information about how to build your own media list. When you are paying an external party to write your own Press Release, you are paying for their time but also access to their Media List when they push your shiny new PR out into the world. In this training session, I will give you practical tips on how to establish your own List tailored to your specific business.
Finally, even if you don't have a knack with words or find the whole idea of writing a Press Release and building a Media List of your own just too much, this training will give you all the tools you need to sketch out what you would like to be in a Press Release that you wish an external party to whip into shape and push out for you. If nothing else, this can help to reduce time, stress and money by actually doing a bunch of the work yourself before handing it over to another person to polish and push.
Although my experience has come from working as a food business, the tools and tips being taught in this training workshop can apply to any small business: food, craft, service-based or trades.
I will be running one workshop a month during May, June, July and August in four different locations around West Cork on the second Thursday morning of the month from 9:45am - 1pm:

- Skibbereen: West Cork Hotel, Thursday 15th June
- Rosscarbery: Celtic Ross Hotel, Thursday 13th July
- Bantry: The Maritime Hotel, Thursday 17th August
