A Taste of West Cork Food Festival – Artisan Food Guide

A definitive guide to the best West Cork artisan food producers, farmers’ markets and speciality food shops from Bandon to Beara

I was commissioned by A Taste of West Cork Food Festival to write and produce a book that would be a one-stop shop to all the artisan food producers in West Cork. I accepted the commission with delight, and in June 2017 A Taste of West Cork Artisan Food Guide was published!

This is a guide book that is designed to be read more like a story of all the artisan food producers in this corner of Ireland. We have more skilled food producers in West Cork than the whole of the rest of Ireland put together, and many of the people who work in this craft have stories of their own that capture the imagination.

This book is designed to guide you to these stories and story tellers who just also happen to make amazing and beautiful things to eat. Many of them can be visited, so I included a series of maps and suggested itineraries as well as the speciality food shops, farmers’ markets and other outlets where you can purchase these foods to savour as you wind you way around West Cork’s Atlantic coast line and mountainous interior.

Pictured at the launch of the West Cork Artisan Food Guide, at Vertigo, County Hall were (l to r), Kate Ryan, Food Blogger and Writer at Flavour.ie; Tim Lucey, Chief Executive, Cork Co. Council and Helen Collins, chairperson of A Taste of West Cork Food Festival.

I’m extremely proud of the end result – maybe a little biased, but proud all the same because it is what I love to do best – write about the wonderful food we have in West Cork and the characters that are behind the skills and traditions exacted to make damn fine things to eat!

The book is available at a number of outlets around County Cork, but now you can also purchase it online via the website and posted out to you.

Artisan Food Guide, by Kate Ryan is just €5.
